Menopause Self-Love Affirmations for the month of love

MenoLabs News | Fri, Feb 04, 2022

It’s February! Get ready to see hearts everywhere and feel the love with someone…and while you’re at it, why not let that someone be yourself?  Peri/menopause can be such a difficult experience, impacting relationships with those around you, and yourself.  Take the time this month to show yourself love because once you feel love for yourself, you can truly give love out to those around you.

What are affirmations?

To help you get through this “month of love” with a positive approach, we want to arm you with affirmations to reframe your peri/menopause experiences. If you are new to affirmations, Positive Psychology states that affirmations are, “positive phrases, or statements used to challenge negative or unhelpful thoughts.”  All you need to do is pick a phrase that speaks to you and repeat it.

How do you use affirmations?

A good practice could be to save these in your notes on your phone so you are ready with the affirmations no matter where you are.  You could also make this a journal experience.  Journal about your peri/menopause experience and then find affirmations that apply to those situations.  There is so much power in writing things down and working through how you are feeling.

7 affirmations to help with symptoms in peri/menopause:

1.  Anxiety: Going Out

You might have anxieties about going out with unexpected hot flashes.  If you don’t feel comfortable in a crowd, it is ok to leave.  Head home and do something to relax: watch a movie, take a bath, eat a piece of chocolate.  While you are giving yourself what you need, say this to yourself:

I am secure in my decision and feel calm and at peace here at home.

2.  Brain Fog: Work and Family

Can’t remember your daily schedule?  Take a deep breath.  Our lives are busy and that can be overwhelming.  Write all of your schedules down, including those of our kids, work, anything that you want to remember.   You don’t need the pressure to remember everything on your own!  As you write down the schedule try writing an affirmation like this on the page to remember you’ve got this:

I will focus on today, one hour at a time, one task at a time.

3.  Mood Swings: Family

One minute everything feels normal, and the next, you feel like anything someone says or does might trigger irritation.  Step away to be alone.  Take a deep breath and repeat this:

I will rise above negative thoughts and reactions.

    4.  Body Image During Mid-life

Our bodies might change in appearance during mid-life, but we shouldn’t stop taking care of it, respecting it, and being grateful every day that we are able to move and enjoy this life we live.  Repeat this affirmation:

I am positive and that helps create a healthy body.

    5.  Night Sweats and Exhaustion

After an unavoidable battle with night sweats, you are allowed to feel exhausted and take care of yourself accordingly to get through the day.  When you feel like taking a power nap, or reaching for your fifth cup of coffee, say:

I will make my day what I need it to be for me.

    6.  Feeling Alone

You might feel alone at this time in your life, but you're not alone.  There are women out there going through the same thing.  Join a community and share your story.  Don’t do this alone.  When you’re feeling alone, try one of these affirmations:

There is strength in numbers. I am not alone.

    7.  Libido

It can be stressful when you can’t get in the mood and you feel your partner's pressure to engage.  Remember, it doesn’t always have to be the act of sex.  There are other options to explore that could fulfill you and your partner's sexual needs.  Instead of simply saying you have a headache, try deep breathing and repeating this affirmation to see if it could change your mood about interacting with your partner.

    I deserve to feel good.

No matter what month we are in, women in peri/menopause need to feel love and support through this time in their lives.  No one should be made to feel that they are crazy or alone because of how they are feeling.  We hope that these ideas and affirmations help you through this time in your life.  We have more affirmations on our blog if you would like to get more information on the topic.
