We just wrapped another informative MenoLabs® LIVE!-and I wanted to share my notes with you! We covered all things summer skincare during peri/menopause. From how hormonal shifts affect your skin in the heat to which ingredients actually work, we broke it all down.

Foods to add to your grocery list for glowing skin:

  • Eat local/seasonal/colorful fruits and vegetables i.e. berries in summer, apples and squash in the fall, leafy greens all your round.
  • Brazil Nuts 2-3 per day. They are rich in selenium to help regulate blood sugar, thyroid and immune system.

·       Clean proteins that are organic and pasture raised.

What skincare should you consider in peri/menopause:

GOAL:  To strengthen your epidermal barrier-not strip it.

·       Zinc based SPF

·       Look for fractionated hyaluronic acid serums to support deep hydration

·       Reminder: Focus on home skincare and occasionally make time for spa treatments

·       Moisturizers that absorb into your skin rather than lay on the surface like a retinol to stimulate collagen production

·       Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) or  Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) for gentle exfoliation

  • Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a concentrated portion of your own blood this is packed with your own platelets. (Always work with a licensed provider to see if it’s right for you.) PRP injections use your body’s own healing power to support things like skin rejuvenation, hair thinning, joint pain, or even intimate wellness-common concerns during peri/menopause. It’s a natural option offered by dermatologists, women’s health clinics, and medical spas.

·       Take Note: Regular physical activity support skin’s protective and moisturizing functions by boosting blood circulation, reducing oxidative stress, and strengthening the skin barrier.
